Homestay, student residence or a flat?

There is no best option, only the one that fits you. A short orientation, plus the full guide.

Where you live can change the whole experience. There is no option that is best for everyone, only the one that works for you.

Homestay

Good for more contact with the culture and the language, and some meals are often included. In return you are living in someone else's home and following their rules and routine.

Student residence

Popular with people who want to meet other students. More independence and easier friendships. Check whether the room is private or shared, which areas are communal and what the price includes.

Flat or rented room

More freedom, especially on longer stays. But you will deal with the contract, the deposit, the bills and the furniture yourself.

Do not compare on price alone

Look at distance to school, transport, meals, laundry, internet, private or shared room, deposits, bills included and the minimum stay. Saving on accommodation can mean spending far more time and money on transport.

We have a much fuller guide with what each type usually includes, what changes by region and the exact questions to ask before you accept an offer. Read it before you decide.
